Ricky Gervais doesn’t rule out return of David Brent
Ricky Gervais has not ruled out a return to the small screen of his most famous comedy character, David Brent.
The British-born funnyman said that Brent – the bumbling boss he created for The Office – could make a cameo in the US version of the show, or appear in a charity special.
But Gervais, 48, who will host the Golden Globe awards on January 17, said he would not do another episode of the hit BBC show.
He said: “Well, I never say never. I will say we will never do another series or special of The Office.
“At the risk of sounding smug and arrogant, I think we left it perfectly, and the franchise lives on.
“I might do a few odd things for charity and [Brent] might even pop up in the American version if it’s a really short cameo.”
“But nothing more substantial. To return would be a mistake,” he told the New York Post.
He also said he “couldn’t be prouder” of the American version of The Office, shown on the NBC network and starring 40-Year-Old Virgin actor, Steve Carell.
“I never want Steve Carell to stop because now we’re going into syndication and I get my share,” Gervais said.
“I’m gonna work him into the ground like an old Shire horse.
“He’s gonna collapse before he leaves that show, as far as I’m concerned.”
