Julia Roberts Eat, Pray, Love journey turned into tour
Julia Roberts has embarked on playing the lead character in Elizabeth Gilbert’s Eat, Pray, Love. Which has amounted to an extraordinary travel journey of its own.
Gilbert’s true-to-life novel tells the story of a Manhattan writer who reaches a void when she goes through a divorce and hits midlife at the same time. She takes off to a series of exotic and mystical destinations. Roberts in true-to-book form has travelled to the same locations and a US travel company has now created the Eat, Pray Love tour for those who wish to follow.
Las Vegas firm Spirit Quest Tours has capitalised on the religious sites and locations Roberts will soon bring to cinemas when the movie is released. It has a week-long tour of Bali set up for May 2010, including things that Gilbert experienced and wrote of, such as palm readings.
A Hindu statesman, Rajan Zed, said: “Gilbert’s bestselling memoir is about her self-discovery and soul-searching after her nasty divorce, exploring through India, Italy, and Indonesia – a journey which is pleasurable as well as enlightening.”
