Self-confessed ‘failure’ Alec Baldwin to quit acting
Alec Baldwin is planning to quit acting within three years.
The Hunt for Red October star says he will find a new career when his contract for hit TV show 30 Rock runs out in 2012.
He said: “I don’t have any interest in acting any more. Movies are part of my past. It’s been 30 years. I’m not young, but I have time to do something else.”
Baldwin, 51, told a US magazine he considers his film career – which has included starring roles in Glengarry Glenn Ross, Beetlejuice, and The Aviator – unsuccessful.
He added: “It’s a difficult thing to say, but I believe it: I consider my entire movie career a complete failure. I’ll tell you why. The goal of movie-making is to star in a film where your performance drives the film, and the film is either a soaring critical or commercial success, and I never had that.”
His next – and apparently last – film will be romantic comedy It’s Complicated, in which he stars opposite Meryl Streep and Steve Martin. It is due for release in the US on Christmas Day.
