DJ AMs drug intervention show debuts on MTV

The late Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein’s anti-drug show Gone Too Far has debuted on American television.
The star’s family had agreed that the controversial MTV show should be broadcast, nearly two months after his own death from an overdose of prescription drugs and cocaine.
The show was originally scheduled to be aired on October 5, but was delayed for a week.
In the opening episode, broadcast in the US on Monday night, Adam met a 23-year-old heroin addict called Amy in Philadelphia, the city where his own problems with drugs began.
He then staged an intervention with her family and successfully helped her clean up.
In the raw, emotion-packed programme, he told Amy – whose surname is not revealed – his father died when he was aged 19 of AIDS and that he didn’t get over it until he was 25.
He also asked her where her life is headed and she replied: “Jail or death”.
Amy added she had been an addict for six years, and started using after her own father’s death.
In a voiceover, Adam said: “I can’t cure addiction, but what I can do is offer Amy the chance of a different life.
“Just don’t OD on dope, she can’t be a human pin cushion any more.”
He told her: “I promise you, you can be freed of that. Freed. I promise you, there is another life.”
He then helps place Amy in a 90-day rehab course in California which is apparently a success.
At the end of the programme, he told viewers: “Seeing her happy sitting with her family like that make me happy.
“She looks good, seems happy and she’ll have a great life as long as she stays sober. I’m proud of her.”
Adam died aged 36 on August 28 in his New York apartment.
