A woman who blogged about Anna Nicole Smith has been jailed for contempt in a defamation case.
Smith’s mother Virgie Arthur brought the legal action against Lyndal Harrington, alleging she helped to spread falsehoods and the claim that Arthur married her stepbrother and abused Smith as a child.
Harrington, a real estate agent, spent four nights in jail after she failed to comply with a court order to turn over her computer, it was reported. She was ordered to produce the computer on court subpoena by July 2 after claiming it was stolen in a burglary.
Harrington is in court for posts made on a website named Rose Speaks that is not her own. She reportedly claimed: “I just voiced my opinion.”
She said she got into blogging because her business had fallen apart in this economy and it was “something to do”, allowing her to develop friendships with women who were at home.
Three other bloggers are named in the suit. Smith’s former companion, Howard K. Stern, pictured, and Larry Birkhead, the father of her daughter, Dannielynn, are also named. Arthur alleges they conspired to defame her and prevent her obtaining custody of Smith’s child with Birkhead, Dannielyn.
Lawyer Neil McCabe, who represents Arthur, reportedly said: “Lyndall Harrington is a liar who faked a burglary… She’s part of a conspiracy to defame my client and she’s done her own defaming of my client.”
