Fresh from her success as a vampire lover in Twilight, Kristen Stewart is moving on to portraying the role of a rock star. Yes, Kristen has been chosen to play the part of rock star Joan Jett in the movie “The Runaways”, an all-girl rock band that made it big in the 70s. The Runaways include Sandy West (Drums), Lita Ford (guitars), Cherie Currie (keyboard/singer) and Jackie Fox (bass) but the story will focus on guitarist Joan Jett and Cherie Currie.

The band, which was formed in 1975 when the girls were still teenagers, is acknowledged as the first ever successful rock band consisting of girl rockers. The Runaways has influenced a lot of rock bands and female rock singers today who owe their existence to The Runaways including the Go-Go’s, the Gossip and the Donnas and Evanescence. The Runaways’s sound had a hint of Aerosmith’s metal but they were clad in outfits made of leather and lace. Their songs talked about drinking, sex and hanging out with the wrong guys. Jett is popular for the hit songs “I Love Rock N’ Roll” and “”I hate Myself For Loving You”.

The role snagged by Kristen is expected to make wonders for her career. However, she has already committed to the sequel of the Twilight movie with the tile “New Moon” so her filming schedule with The Runaways would definitely be adjusted around her New Moon commitments. Stewart first hit it big when she played the daughter of Jodie Foster in “Panic Room”.
