Victoria and David Beckham the musical
A musical based on the lives of Victoria and David Beckham is in production. The satirical play, entitled ‘MacBecks’, is set to open in January.
Long Road Productions, who are involved in the musical and have previously worked with ‘Riverdance’, say the production draws inspiration from Shakespeare.
The company’s director, Ronan Smith, said: “We’re very excited by the script – it’s a wild comedy romp that borrows from Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’, ‘King Lear’, ‘Romeo and Juliet’, as well as Cyrano de Bergerac. It will be a musical based on the world’s best known soccer player.”
According to reports, Victoria will be based on Lady Macbeth and be portrayed as a ruthless and ambitious woman who David sacrifices his career for.
The musical will also feature actors portraying former England manager Sven Goran Eriksson, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and the woman David allegedly had an affair with, Rebecca Loos.
The script is being penned by Gary Cooke and Malachy McKenna. The show is due to open at Dublin’s Olympia Theatre next January.
