Past and present Mrs Pitt ranked the top-earning actresses
July 3, 2009 on 1:48 pm | In Brad Pitt And Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Aniston, Money, Nicole Kidman | No Comments
A ranking of the top-earning actresses has put Angelina Jolie at the top, with a figure of $27 million earned in the past year, while Nicole Kidman has slipped to $12 million from previous years.
According to Forbes magazine, Jolie raked in most of her dollars on Wanted, an action film that saw her make more in the past year than husband Brad Pitt (who earned $25 million). Salt also brought top dollar for the action star and mother of six.
"Much of Angelina’s earnings came from her share of the profits on Wanted, but she also scored a fat upfront check for Salt, an action film originally slated to star Tom Cruise, in which Jolie plays a CIA agent who is accused of being a Russian spy," Forbes said.
Pitt’s former wife Jennifer Aniston followed Jolie, earning most from the romantic comedy Marley and Me and her upcoming film The Baster about a woman who tries to get pregnant by artificial insemination.
Forbes said: "Aniston also still earns money from [reruns of TV series] Friends and she gets a nice paycheck shilling for Glaceau’s SmartWater."
Veteran Meryl Streep came in at No. 3 with $24 million from Mamma Mia.
Sarah Jessica Parker ranked fourth with $23 million in earnings following the movie version of TV series Sex and the City. Another Sex movie is in the works. Cameron Diaz came in fifth, banking $20 million. Nicole Kidman, Australia’s top-earning actress, ranked with Drew Barrymore at $12 million earned between June 2007 and June 2008. Renee Zellweger rounded out the top 10 at $10 million.
Forbes said: "As is still typical for Hollywood, our actresses earned significantly less than their male counterparts." The magazine pointed out that the top-earning actor, Harrison Ford, earned $65 million.

Michael Jackson’s personal doctor was paid $150,000 a month
July 3, 2009 on 1:35 pm | In Michael Jackson | No Comments
Doctor Conrad Murray was being paid a staggering $150,000 a month to go on tour with Michael Jackson.
Jackson was adamant that his physician had to be with him at all times – and said he would not agree to his comeback shows unless Dr Murray was on the pay-roll.
Now Randy Phillips, president and CEO of the company behind the London O2 shows, AEG Live, has admitted they had a "big fight" with Jackson over the demand.
"It made no sense," Mr Phillips complained. "We spent a lot of money to take Dr Conrad Murray out of his practice – $150,000 a month plus travel plus hotels plus per diems. As producers of the show it made no sense with the doctors and the medical [experts] in London."
Mr Phillips said Jackson "demanded" the doctor of his choice – and the company finally agreed because they were scared of losing the deal.

Michael Jackson’s dermatologist Dr Arnold Klein speaks out
July 2, 2009 on 6:38 pm | In Michael Jackson | No Comments
The doctor rumoured to be the real father of Michael Jackson’s children has spoken out for the first time – but refused to confirm or deny the claims.
Dr Arnold Klein – Jackson’s longtime dermatologist and friend – also insisted he is not one of the doctors who allegedly gave the music icon prescription drugs.
There are reports Klein is the biological father of Jackson’s children, but he said: “I will not discuss any allegations with regard to Michael.”
Addressing the prescription drug claims, Klein added: “The allegations were about doctors, not about me.
“Those are not allegations about me, I guarantee you.
“One of the biggest problems in the world are the rich, the poor and the very famous get the worst medical care and sometimes doctors do things they shouldn’t do.”
Klein said: “I have great grief for the American public over the death of Michael Jackson, for his children and for his family.
“This is a tragedy. We have lost the most talented person in the world.
“I was very close friends with Michael. His children spent Halloween here.
“He was one of the finest people I’ve met in my life.”
Klein insisted: “I want to be the best doctor in the world and that’s all I care about.”
Beckham’s US football experiment called into question
July 2, 2009 on 2:15 pm | In Beckhams, Sport, Victoria Beckham | No Comments
Teammates of David Beckham are embittered about the football star’s time with the LA Galaxy, according to a new book titled The Beckham Experiment.
It says Beckham, whose stay in the US has been marred by injury, sporting politics and spells away with AC Milan, is under fire from the Galaxy player who has stepped into his captaincy shoes, Langdon Donovan.
In excerpts carried in Sports Illustrated, Becks’s commitment to the US venture that saw him transplant wife Victoria and their three young sons to Los Angeles is questioned.
Author Grant Wahl also claims Becks’s best pal and personal manager Terry Byrne was instrumental in getting Ruud Gullit the job as Galaxy coach.
Wahl writes: "By July 2008, the LA players had seen enough to realise that Beckham might be a good team-mate – but he wasn’t much of a captain.
"It was one thing to take part in team events, the Galaxy players felt. But it was another thing to lead, to rally the players during tough times and defend the greater good of the team with the coach and the front office."
Beckham is due to return to LA Galaxy midway through the US season. The book quotes defender Greg Vanney as noting Becks did not rally players during rough stretches and never called team meetings during losing streaks.
He is quoted saying: "I think he’s a great guy, a great father and a good soccer player who’s special in the qualities he brings to the field. But he doesn’t live in the same world we live in."
Donovan, meanwhile, could never get over Beckham’s squirming over the tab. "Nobody would have believed it, he thought. Beckham is a cheapskate."

No nude is good news for Sarah Jessica Parker

Sex And The City star Sarah Jessica Parker said she had a "no-nudity" clause in her contract for the show.
Jessica Parker, 44, who played the part of party girl Carrie Bradshaw, revealed that she was the only one of the show’s stars who did not have to strip off in the hit US TV series.
She said: "I was the only one of the cast not to take my clothes off, because I had a no-nudity clause. I didn’t do the really bad language or play with sex toys [either].
"But people think that I did.”
She added, "No one wants to see me nude – believe me! I was thrilled that the others did the scenes so well and they looked great. But I have had to deal with my own modesty.
"I wasn’t comfortable with the vulgar language, either. I thought that, because Carrie was a writer, she would be able to use better language than she did."
Jackson will ‘excludes father Joe’
June 30, 2009 on 2:40 pm | In Michael Jackson | No Comments
Michael Jackson’s will excludes his father Joe, it has been claimed.
The singer is said to have drawn up the legal document in 2002.
According to US reports it was written by long-term Michael Jackson lawyer, John Branca.
It is expected to be submitted to Los Angeles Superior Court later this week.
Entertainment lawyer Branca was Jackson’s attorney from 1980 to 2006.
Jackson had re-hired Mr Branca shortly before his death last Thursday in Los Angeles at the age of 50.
US columnist Roger Friedman said: “[Michael] assigned guardianship of his three kids to his mother, Katherine.
“He gave his 80-year-old mother the responsibility of raising his two sons and daughter but made no mention of his father.
In fact, Jackson’s will does not mention his father, Joseph, at all.”
He quoted sources that said his estate is to be divided among his children and his mother only. His brothers and sisters are also said to be not included as major beneficiaries.
Charities are also said to benefit from the will.
Meanwhile the Wall Street Journal reported that Jackson’s assets, which include a 50% stake in Sony/ATV Music Publishing, could exceed his estimated debts of US$500 million by as much as US$200 million.
It is not known what custody provisions the 2002 will sets.
In a court filing on Monday the singer’s parents said they believed Jackson had died without a valid will.
But they said: “It is possible that the court will have to review many wills and evaluate the competing claims of the presenters. Someone with legal authority needs to be in place now to properly protect the estate’s interests.”
Jackson claimed that his father Joe, 79, had beat him in the past.
But Joe Jackson disputed his son’s claims of abuse, saying in 2003: “I whipped him with a switch and a belt.
“I never beat him. You beat someone with a stick.”
Katherine Jackson has been granted temporary custody of the singer’s three children until a court hearing in August.
Christian Bale staunches Dark Knight reprise but Johnny Depp likes Riddler
June 30, 2009 on 12:17 pm | In Actors, Movies | No Comments
Christian Bale has poured cold water on the possibility of a Batman follow-up.
Bale, who is currently promoting Public Enemies, said there would not likely be another Batman film, a UK report says.
"I truly don’t know that we’re ever going to see another Batman movie," Bale said while promoting the Great Depression thriller, which also stars Johnny Depp.
While Bale is contractually obligated to return to any reprise of the Dark Knight, its director Christopher Nolan isn’t. Bale indicated he could not pull it off without Nolan, saying, "I don’t even want to think about it."
"Chris Nolan’s the boss," said Bale in the interview. He explained that the story had to be up to Nolan’s standards for him to come on board.
Depp, meanwhile, was reported saying he wants to play the Riddler. "If the opportunity came, I’d definitely juggle it. I always like the Riddler. I always liked Frank Gorshin. He was brilliant. I always thought he was a great actor," Depp said.
The Oscar-winning movie is haunted by the late Heath Ledger, whose Joker character made an indelible mark.

He added: "We experienced so many things together as kids. I kind of lived at their house, he would live at my house, when I moved out when I was 16 he’d stay over at my house, we’d go to concerts.
"We were always getting into trouble, he had a fantastic personality.
"One of the great things about Michael was it wasn’t that Michael you saw, he was a very strong guy who talked very deep, knew what he wanted and always made me laugh.
"He was a great artist, he could draw anything."
Speaking about rumours that Jackson was taking prescription drugs, Gest admitted it could be true.

Barack Obama got up and did his thing as Americas Got Talent got under way.
June 24, 2009 on 4:26 pm | In Barack Obama, Uncategorized | No CommentsBarack Obama got up and did his thing as America’s Got Talent got under way.
Peter Perkin, 54, got the talent competition off to a funky start with his act as the Rock’n’Roll President – blending Obama with Godfather Of Soul James Brown.
The impersonator impressed judges Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne and David Hasselhoff, who sent him through to the second round in Las Vegas with a chance to win $1million.
Quirky Zoe and Dave Campanello also wowed the audience early on in the show with their roles-reversed dance act Paradizo Dance.
After 240lbs Dave lifted his 100lbs wife into the air, they swapped positions – with Zoe staggering the audience as she held her chunky husband up on her back.
The opening episode – held in Seattle – also had its fair share of freaks including 47-year-old Brad Byers, who claimed he was ‘hooked’ on performing from an early age.
His act, an impersonation of the world’s worst fishing trip, saw him put a steel hook in through his nose and out of his mouth before suspending a swinging boat anchor to the end!
Early favorites for making it into the finals included the singing EriAm, Haban, 11, Salina, 13, and Lianda, 15. Their performance of the Jackson Five’s I Want You Back brought the audience to their feet and rapturous applause.
But the funniest performance came from amateur singer-songwriter David Johnson, 30, who penned an original song for his appearance dedicated to The Hoff.

Robin Wright Penn a marriage survivor

Robin Wright Penn is philosophical about marriage after having hers to Oscar-winner Sean Penn nearly called off – twice.
"All marriages have their phases," Wright Penn, 43, told British magazine Psychologies for its July issue. The couple met in 1989 after Penn’s divorce from Madonna. "It’s life. We go through it, if we’re married long enough. If you’re lucky you grow and you work it out."
The Penn marriage was nearly dissolved last year but the divorce was called off. Then in April this year, Penn again filed separation papers with a court – only to rescind them.
Wright Penn said of her reconciliation with the firebrand actor, "It feels good now … If it didn’t,
I wouldn’t still be here.
"There are a lot of chapters in our book. You have to do the work in your marriage, but it has to be laid on a strong foundation of love … We have that, and shared history deepens that foundation."
The couple has two sons, Dylan, 18, and Hopper, 15.
Wright Penn is receiving accolades for her performance in The Private Lives Of Pippa Lee. She also recently appeared in the political thriller State Of Play, alongside Russell Crowe, Ben Affleck and Helen Mirren.
But she said she had suffered from low self-esteem. "I’ve always had a problem with confidence around my work … I was hard on myself for a long time. The best thing about birthdays these days is that feeling of finally being able to relax and let go," she told the magazine.

Guy Ritchie parts with 100,000 for chill-out beach pad on wheels

Guy Ritchie has forked out a whopping £100,000 to spruce up a white Mercedes "builder’s" van into a chill-out pad on wheels, it was reported.
The ex-husband of Madonna reportedly consulted expert vehicle pimpers Touch of Class, a Welsh firm that turned Madonna’s car into a pink disco for a music video of her hit song Sorry.
The vehicle has allegedly been upholstered with an English "country gent tweed" and features a pair of reclining massage chairs.
Dayne Bartlett of the restyling company said: "It’s a complete chill-out pad – you’d have no idea what it’s like inside to see it from the outside.
"He can plug his laptop into the plasma screen and work from the van on set.
Bartlett has been on the phone to Ritchie daily about the project and found him a lot more down to earth and easy to deal with than his pop megastar ex-wife.
"Guy’s fantastic, so easy going – regardless of his lifestyle, he’s so down-to-earth and pleasant. He might be loaded, but he speaks to us as if we’re on the same level. And he knows what he wants,” he said.
The van reportedly has blacked-out windows to prevent onlookers and is decked out with a 19-inch plasma TV and multi-media sound system.

I’m A Celebrity! host Myleene Klass had to be evacuated from the set of the US version of the show in Costa Rica after it was hit by a storm.
The 31-year-old mum was out in the Costa Rican jungle filming the series when the camp was hit by lightning and floods.
Myleene, her co-host Damon Fahey and the show’s contestants were led from the area to a new makeshift site nearby.
A source said: "Thunder could be heard throughout the episode.
"There was a huge concern about several reports of ground lightning strikes."
This is the latest complication in the series for host Myleene, who has already seen her clothes go mouldy in the damp surroundings.
She was also left glued to the bed after putting on insect repellant.

De Niro analysed mobster movie role
June 17, 2009 on 5:07 pm | In Movies, Robert De Niro | No CommentsHollywood film star Robert De Niro rubbed shoulders with a top New York Mafia mobster to prepare for a gangster movie, it has been claimed.
The Hollywood star allegedly rubbed shoulders with Gambino crime family member Anthony ‘Fat Andy’ Ruggiano as he filmed Analyse This, in 1999.
Ruggiano, who died in March 1999, was linked with at least seven murders and reportedly met with the Oscar-winner in his trailer, the New York Daily News claims.
De Niro, who also starred in mobster movie GoodFellas is famous for his in-depth research into roles.
But De Niro’s representative, Stan Rosenfeld, said the star does not remember Ruggiano.
"Bob seldom, if ever, discusses his research techniques," said Rosenfeld.
